USCIS Announces Indefinite Validity for Medical Exams

US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced that I-693 medical exam forms, which must be completed for I-485 Application to Adjust Status cases, will remain valid as long as they were completed after November 1, 2023.  These forms must be completed by a USCIS-listed Civil Surgeon, and are provided to USCIS still in a sealed envelope,  These exams have historically had an expiration date – most recently two years.

The logic here involves in part the fact that for exams completed since that date, information has been shared with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) under a cooperative agreement

The change is one of many over recent years.  Roughly a year ago, USCIS fully removed a rule requiring that the exam have been signed no longer ago than 60 days before the form was submitted – a requirement temporarily waived during the pandemic.  The pandemic era also saw an extension of the validity period of the medical exams form two years to four years

I-693 medical exams completed before the November 1, 2023 date will continue to be valid for two years form the date signed.
