US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), which already allows those filing I-765 Applications for Employment Authorization document to apply for Social Security Numbers/Cards directly on this form, is expanding its partnership with the Social Security Administration to allow for this process as a part of the I-485 Application -to Adjust Status as well.

As I-765s to obtain employment authorization are typically filed along with Adjustment filings by most practitioners, it isn’t clear what added benefit this provides, but there are likely some cases where this does somewhat accelerate the process of obtaining a social security card and number.
