Immigration Raids – February 2017

There has been a great deal in the press over the last few days about an increase in Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (“ICE”) raids on businesses and households across several states – including here in New York’s Hudson Valley.
It’s not yet clear how many have been caught in there, whether these are new raids in response to the Trump Executive Orders or were truly already planned as ICE has publicly suggested, and to what extent they will expand.
For those concerned that ICE may show up at their home or workplace, the American Civil Liberties Union has a brief but excellent “Know Your Rights” presentation online here.
There is a nationwide number to call to report raids: 1-844-363-1423, put in place by an organization known as ) United We Dream. Through centralized reporting, immigration activists and practitioners are hoping to be better able to understand the scope of ICE activities and prepare for trends going forward. So, we strongly encourage reporting if you become aware of raid activity.
